Husbandry Volunteers assists with the daily upkeep of the galleries, helps to maintain a clean and organized environment and assists GAI biologists with projects as needed. Volunteers also co-operates in reliable program of Quality Control (QC) for departmental equipment / procedures.
Volunteer duties include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Assist with exhibit cleaning.
2. Supports Husbandry operations by caring out routine behind-the-scenes housekeeping, following the direction of biologist staff for exhibit maintenance, and assist as needed to support animal care functions.
3. Works seamlessly with all GAI husbandry and facilities staffs. Is a consistently positive role model helping to mold/create the unique GAI working culture that will become the new industry standard.
4. Follows safety protocols set in place by GAI, as well as written and spoken directions.
5. Maintains Husbandry records at the highest standards. Updates Husbandry records daily as necessary. 6. Works within an assigned gallery — participates enthusiastically in a program of Quality Control for all in-house Husbandry operations.
7. Performs other duties as workload necessitates.
Prerequisites for the Husbandry Department are:
- Training - 101: Orientation
- Abliity to volunteer 1 day a week 7:00 am to 11:00 am (preferably same day each week)
- Preferred (not required) — Some experience working with aquatic animals
- Adaptable person, able to work comfortably in a busy, changing work environment
- Detail oriented and able to stictly adhere to instructions/procedures
- Must be willing to perform routine, often mundane "chores" routinely without hesitation
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Completed 32 volunteer hours (minimum 20 hours on the floor) .
