The Guest Programs Department staffs volunteers in several different areas around the Aquarium. Please see below for a list of their positions with a brief description and the prerequisites for volunteering in each position.
GP: Arts & Crafts Volunteer - Arts & Crafts volunteers assist with the set-up, activities, and cleanup of theamed craft tables for families at the Aquarium.
Prerequisites:
- Training - 101: Orientation
- On-the-Job training with Guest Programs Department
- Availability on weekends
GP: Greeter - Greeters welcome guests as they enter the Atrium, pass out maps and answer guest questions. Greeter Guidelines are available for you to read prior to your first shift.

- Training - 101: Orientation
GP: Mascot & Mascot Assistant - Mascot volunteers serve as the Georgia Aquarium mascots, wearing either the Deepo the fish costume, the Domino the whale shark costume, or the Scooter the penguin costume, while providing animated interaction with guests without speaking. This includes posing for photos. Mascot Assistant stays with the mascot while she/he is in costume, guiding her/him around the floor, watching for children and directing them safely to her/him (visibility from inside the costume is often restricted).
Prerequisites:
- Training - 101: Orientation
- Deepo Character: must be 5'3"-5'5" tall & be able to shoulder the weight of the costume (~30lbs); Domino Character: must be 5'5"-6'1" tall & be able to should the weight of the costume (~30 lbs); Scooter Character: must be 5'5"-5"10" tall & able to shoulder the weight of the costume(~30 lbs)

Guest Programs: Gallery Positions - Gallery volunteers interact with guests in the galleries, discussing exhibits, answering questions, assisting guests at touch pools, helping to supervise play areas and notifying staff of any urgent concerns.

GP: Gallery Rover - Gallery Rover volunteers will move from gallery to gallery assisting our guests, engaging them in conversation and generally adding to the guest experience.
Prerequisites:
- Training - 101: Orienation
- All gallery trainings (210,220, 221, 230, 240, 250)
- Have been given "Assigned" status for all five galleries in your VIC profile
- Completed 32 volunteer hours in the galleries
GP: Birthday Parties - Birthday Party volunteers assist with setting up the room for the party, greeting party participants, leading children in games, helping to distribute food & drinks and then breaking down the room after the party.
Prerequisites:
- Training - 101: Orientation
GP: Overnight Programs - Overnight Program volunteers work with the "Sleep with the Fishes" program, assisting staff with guest registration, program set-up and conducting games/activities in the evening. Volunteers may stay overnight, but it is not required.

GP: Behind-the-Scenes Tour Assistant - Behind-the-Scenes Tour volunteers follow the tour group to facilitate traffic flow, ensure participants' safety and answer questions. These volunteers also distribute and then collect participant surveys at the end of the tour.

- All 6 gallery training courses (210, 220, 221, 230, 240, 250)
- Completed 36 hours working in the galleries
- Completed On-the-Job training with Guest Programs Department
