WHY WORK SPRING BREAK? BY: Richelle Weinstock, volunteer since September 2005
"There are many reasons we volunteer at Georgia Aquarium: the love of marine animals, the desire to learn something new, the satisfaction of being helpful.
During the annual spring break, being helpful is right up on top when we sign up to work extra shifts. The realization that there are less than 125 full and part-time employees working in the front of the house and that the Aquarium is open 9am-9pm from March 13 through April 10, ought to be enough reason to find a couple of extra shifts in our bag of tricks for this time period.
The need is everywhere: from galleries to the atrium volunteer desk and greeter; from Planet Shark to the 4-D theater; from welcome host to information booth; from arts and crafts table to MOD assistant. Finding an interesting, exciting position is easy! Don’t want to work a 4-hour shift? There are 2-hour shifts available. Want to work more than 4 hours? Combine 2 and 4-hour shifts. Be creative. Just know that whatever you do is being very helpful during this busy time period.
It’s amazing to meet the guests coming from all over the country and the world during spring break. College students, families, conventioneers all gather at the world’s largest aquarium, are thrilled by what they see and are so happy that we are there to make their visit the best experience ever.
Let’s all pitch in to work an extra shift or more during the March-April period. Guarantee that you won’t regret it and you’ll feel better for it!"
